Using the CDCP at U Smile Dentistry
U Smile Dentistry accepts patients using the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Coverage depends on your eligibility, the services approved under the program and any applicable co-payment or additional charges. Before treatment, the dental team can review your CDCP information and explain what may be covered based on the program rules in effect at that time.
What the Canadian Dental Care Plan Covers
The CDCP helps cover part of the cost of a range of eligible oral health services, including certain preventive, diagnostic, restorative, endodontic, periodontal, prosthodontic and oral surgery services. Some services require preauthorization before treatment.
The CDCP may not pay the full cost of treatment. Depending on your adjusted family net income, you may have a co-payment, and additional charges may apply if the dental office charges more than the CDCP-established fees or if you choose a service that is not covered by the plan.

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) FAQs
What services are covered by the CDCP?
The CDCP covers preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontal, and oral surgery services.
Are there any additional charges?
Yes, you may have costs to pay. Depending on your adjusted family net income, a CDCP co-payment may apply. You may also have additional charges if the dental office fee is higher than the CDCP-established fee or if you choose a service that is not covered by the plan. We can review estimated costs with you before treatment.
Can I use the CDCP if I have other government insurance?
You may still be eligible for the CDCP if you have dental coverage through another government social program, but how the plans work together can vary. Coverage may be coordinated between the CDCP and the other program, so it is important to confirm the current rules for both before treatment.
Who is eligible for the CDCP?
To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all current eligibility requirements, including not having access to private dental insurance or coverage, having an adjusted family net income under $90,000, filing the required Canadian tax returns, and being a Canadian resident for tax purposes. Eligibility is determined by the Government of Canada.
Financial options that suit your lifestyle
- Insurance Plans
To make your dental visits as easy as possible, we accept all dental insurance plans. Our office follows the Ontario Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide. Claims are submitted electronically (where applicable) and payment from the insurance is accepted directly, provided your insurance will pay the office directly.
When your insurance does not cover the services at 100%, our office collects the co-payment, which is the portion, not covered by the dental plan, as required by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario Regulations.
- Orthodontic Treatments
For orthodontic treatments, which require months or years of ongoing treatment, we can design a convenient, affordable, and interest-free, monthly payment plan depending on the complexity of the case, the duration of treatment and your budget.
- Other Financing Options
We do understand that at times, dental treatment can be costly. If you need some extra help in being able to pay for your treatment plan, we offer a financing option through a specialized dental financing firm. Once your treatment plan has been decided upon, there is a simple application process, and in some cases, approval within 48 hours!
